Mandela Day Princess Party - Huge Success!

Last Saturday was the long anticipated Princess Party - in support of Mandela Day. We wanted girls to get together, have fun, and for 67 minutes show their support for girls who have been raped and abuse. And what a turn out! We exceeded our expectations, with more than 1000 signatures on the Ava Secrets Pledge Wall. Wow!

Girls got to mingle with celebs Charmaine Noy (Kfm), Ayanda (Good Hope FM) and the beautiful Tammy-Anne Fortuin. Thanks ladies for coming to support this great cause!

I had a wonderful time meeting all the girls and having some good fun! I really hope that this becomes and annual event, and next year, even BIGGER!!

Events like these are not possible without the support of GREAT sponsors! The biggest thanks has to go to all of the following great companies:

and not to forget the *incredible* Code Teen, Club X and Cavendish Square.

Remember, this day was not just about having loads of fun, but highlighting a very important cause: the rape and abuse of teenage girls. We are here to support you, and these events highlight the fact that we are ALL in this together: we are all sisters and friends.

Matric Dance Inspiration: The Dress

It's Matric Dance season and every girl in Matric must be super excited, and stressed, for the big night! So much to think about: outfit, shoes, make-up, hair, accessories, the after party.... Where to start?

I've had many girls asking me for some tips, so here it is girls!

Most important, I think, is the outfit. And the best place to look for inspiration is of course the red carpet! With the very best designers dressing the stars, it is the  place to spot the trends.

There is of course the Oscars, the Emmy's, the Grammy's, Cannes and most recently: The BAFTAS.

This year royal blue was a big hit - I'm sure that Princess Catherine stunning blue sapphire engagement ring was the inspiration here!

Jennifer Garner's dress is super relaxed - love it! I just wish she'd smile more.

And then - a trend I also spotted at the Royal Monaco wedding. The red dress on the red carpet. I think I counted about 8 at the wedding last week! Marie Louise Parker looks super sexy in her dress - don't you just love the flower detail? It's a little quirky, and makes a otherwise plain dress really special. Take note girls - this is how you can customize a store bought dress by adding some of your personality to it!

Bright colours remain a firm favourite of mine - if you have a bubbly personality, there is no way you should wear a neutral colour! Let your lively nature show in some of the hottest colours this season: hot pink, bright turquoise and deep purple. And it's not because they are the colours of my gorgeous Secrets range either!  Thandi Newton shines in this multi-pink ballgown, and Queen Latifah looks radiant in the turquoise. Her stunning skin also helps!

My absolute fave outfit of the moment has to be the stunning Emma Watson. Does this girl ever put a fashion foot wrong? She is dressed by Oscar de la Renta, and they grey tulle skirt just makes me want to go out and buy a tutu! And I'm not a ballerina!

Blake Lively is another fashion trend setter. Her flowing, dreamy silver gown is a show stopper. Opt for something like this if you want the heads turning!

And what fashion round up would be complete without Princess Catherine. A more conservative style of dress, but it oozes glamour. If you choose a simple dress like this, then be sure to make your hair extra glam. Remember Princess Charlene? Simple Armani dress, teamed with beautifully ornate hair piece.

It can be quite a daunting process of choosing the one outfit you are going to wear. Whatever you choose, make sure you are comfortable. There is nothing worse than pulling at your dress the entire night, shifting about in your chair or running of the bathroom to get things back in place! You want to be able to sit, walk, dance and enjoy yourself!

All the best ladies!

Pop Princess arrives in South Africa!

Kylie has touched down in Johannesburg ahead of her *five* shows in the country. She was welcomed by the Soweto Gospel Choir, and I love how she joined in the dancing and singing!

You should be so lucky!

Oh yes, the lady from down under is coming to South Africa, and I for one can not wait! Tickets sold out so quickly, another show was added to the Jozi line up - making it 3 shows, plus 2 shows in Cape Town. (Where does she get the energy, I mean, she's teeny tiny?)

No tickets? No worries! I'm giving away a set of double tickets for her second Cape Town show, on Thursday the 14th of July. Ladies, these are seriously good seats!

And you know me, I like simplifying things. So all you have to do to enter this insanely awesome competition, is 'like' my Facebook fan page and Seventeen SA, ask a friend to do the same, and enter your details HERE. All of 10 seconds, and you could be doing the Locomotion with Kylie next Thursday night!

Perfect Princess

Did  you watch the Royal Wedding on Saturday? I was just about glued to my TV!

The guest list was a real who's who of the fashion world, plus the ultimate James Bond, AKA Roger Moore, also being present!

Charlene Wittstick looked amazing - that Armani gown was simple, elegant and just perfect! And didn't you just *love* her hair piece! Quite a bold move, wearing no jewelry at all, but I think she made it work!

Our girl from Benoni made sure there were some local elements during the ceremony. Did you spot the Afrikaans welcoming? Too cute! And then, The Click Song!! And at the perfect moment too.

This might be the largest wedding cake ever! Again, loving the local flavour with the pretty Proteas.

Princess Charlene changed into another Armani gown for the evening reception.

Just goes to show....anyone can be a Princess!

Don't forget about the fabulous Mandela Day Princess Party on the 16th of July at Cavendish Square in Cape Town. All the details are my Facebook page - and I'll be giving more details as we get closer to the big day! Hope to see you there!

Hope everyone has a fab Monday!
love Ava xx
