Celeb spotting: Prom

Prom, Matric Dance - it's all the same thing. And everyone goes to their Prom, right? Yip, even world famous celebrities like these!

The ever cute Dakota Fanning.
LOVE the little pink dress !

Fergilicious? Almost didn't recognize her!

Not quite the meat dress or the egg -
but even at a young age Lady Gagga pushed
the norm! The sunnies are so celeb!
(BTW - she looks beautiful here.
Makes me think she needs to cover
less of herself and show as the true lady!)

Miss Spears! Not sure of this was before
"Hit me Baby one more time",
but she looks like a really sweet Southern
girl here!

It's difficult to make out the dress
in this pic, but I love Miley's unfussy hair.

Can this girl do anything from in the
style department? Not sure about wearing
white to the Prom, but Taylor Swift's
ple yet elegant look is a winner!

How can I do a post about celebrity
prom photo's and not share this one?
Don't know who this lucky lady is,
but I can imagine her still going around
telling people "I went to the Prom with Brad Pitt."
Jealous.

Have you had your Matric Dance yet? I'd love to see some of your favourite photo's! Send to talktoava (at) foxypink.co.za and I could be sharing your pics here on the blog.

Hope everyone has had a super weekend!

love Ava

Are you brave enough?

Would you consider doing your own make-up and hair for a big event? Like your Matric Dance?

Well, more and more ladies are opting to do just that! And I have to say, after some not so great experiences after having my make-up 'profesionally' done - I'm starting to see why it can be a good idea.

Firstly - you know yourself. You might already know the tricks to make your eyes look bigger, what colour works for your lips and when it comes to hair - I'm sure you know all the quirks of your stubborn strands!

Of course it's a great way to save money - but remember these tips before you attempt the big 'do' on the big night!

  • Look at magazines and online articles. Find the picture you love - it's easier to get the look of something that's been done before and one that you can reference.  Especially when it comes to hair - don't think "I'll just put my hair up" - there are so many different ways of doing each and every look.
  • Practice makes perfect! Try it again and again until you get it right! You'll figure out the shortcuts and know exactly how much hair spray to use, or figure out the perfect blend of eyeshadow.
  • What is a carpenter without his saw? Make sure you have all the right tools - from make-up remover to the right brushes, line it all up on your dressing table  to you won't have to dig through messy bags and drawers to find it.
  • Don't rush! Make sure you have enough time, and then a little more.  How many times has your hand slipped and you end up with a little bit more Gothic eyeliner than you wished for? If something does go wrong, you won't need to stress as you plenty of  time to fix it or start over!
  • Emergency! I never leave home without my make-up bag! You don't need to take everything with you, but the essentials like lipgloss, maybe some concealer and some boppy pins are a must.  You need to keep your loop picture perfect throughout the night :)
I bet you that after this - you'll be able to do your make-up and hair in no time!

Good luck girls!

Matric Dance Inspiration: The Dress

It's Matric Dance season and every girl in Matric must be super excited, and stressed, for the big night! So much to think about: outfit, shoes, make-up, hair, accessories, the after party.... Where to start?

I've had many girls asking me for some tips, so here it is girls!

Most important, I think, is the outfit. And the best place to look for inspiration is of course the red carpet! With the very best designers dressing the stars, it is the  place to spot the trends.

There is of course the Oscars, the Emmy's, the Grammy's, Cannes and most recently: The BAFTAS.

This year royal blue was a big hit - I'm sure that Princess Catherine stunning blue sapphire engagement ring was the inspiration here!

Jennifer Garner's dress is super relaxed - love it! I just wish she'd smile more.

And then - a trend I also spotted at the Royal Monaco wedding. The red dress on the red carpet. I think I counted about 8 at the wedding last week! Marie Louise Parker looks super sexy in her dress - don't you just love the flower detail? It's a little quirky, and makes a otherwise plain dress really special. Take note girls - this is how you can customize a store bought dress by adding some of your personality to it!

Bright colours remain a firm favourite of mine - if you have a bubbly personality, there is no way you should wear a neutral colour! Let your lively nature show in some of the hottest colours this season: hot pink, bright turquoise and deep purple. And it's not because they are the colours of my gorgeous Secrets range either!  Thandi Newton shines in this multi-pink ballgown, and Queen Latifah looks radiant in the turquoise. Her stunning skin also helps!

My absolute fave outfit of the moment has to be the stunning Emma Watson. Does this girl ever put a fashion foot wrong? She is dressed by Oscar de la Renta, and they grey tulle skirt just makes me want to go out and buy a tutu! And I'm not a ballerina!

Blake Lively is another fashion trend setter. Her flowing, dreamy silver gown is a show stopper. Opt for something like this if you want the heads turning!

And what fashion round up would be complete without Princess Catherine. A more conservative style of dress, but it oozes glamour. If you choose a simple dress like this, then be sure to make your hair extra glam. Remember Princess Charlene? Simple Armani dress, teamed with beautifully ornate hair piece.

It can be quite a daunting process of choosing the one outfit you are going to wear. Whatever you choose, make sure you are comfortable. There is nothing worse than pulling at your dress the entire night, shifting about in your chair or running of the bathroom to get things back in place! You want to be able to sit, walk, dance and enjoy yourself!

All the best ladies!

Love Ava xoxo
